By the way - have you looked at the safari stuff in awhile?
Maybe one day you won't have to spend the money because you'll have a grant or somebody footing the bill for you to go!
I want to save up for an amazing one to be honest. I want to go on a photography based one too, that way I can really get the most out of it - going at the best times of day and getting the right angles and stuff. Rather then just going on a normal one that's more like "look lion... lets move on now" I'd be like "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" lol
I want to start hosting macro days (if I can make this arrangement with a reptile shop) and doing some pet portraits. If either do work they should make me some decent money, which gives me way more chance of going on safari! I really want to start selling prints too, but no one seems to want to buy any from me, I don't understand, my prices seem pretty fair to me, what do you think? Any advise would be greatttttt
I was considering that too, I wasn't sure if it'd be a big group and if they would be really quick with the schedule and not stay at one spot because there's a bunch of cheetahs. I'd be screaming no too.
I think you could make more money from the pet portraits, definitely. I think your print prices are fair. The only thing I have noticed over the past couple years at school is that people like customized work. That's why I think you'll make money from pet portraits because people want pictures of their pets. Instead of buying a really cool picture of a pet they don't know, they could have a picture of an animal they love dearly. So it's more of a sentimental thing than a technical thing, if that makes any sense. For the trips to the zoos, safaris, etc, I think those prints would do better for contests, national geographic, and possibly selling the photo to a magazine for them to use. Taking pictures of animals for the zoo could also be another way for you to make money, i.e. if they want to include your pictures on their website, in a brochure, signs, etc. could be another way to get commissioned and make money that way too.
So basically I've noticed that people want stuff about them, for them, customized to them, etc. I'm doing graphic design work, and they hardly want anything that I've created just randomly or for fun. They always want something done specifically for them :/.
