Well you were right. I do like this shot, and I haven't given you one of these for quite a while now, so sit down and buckle up Compositionally this is really nice. Great use of the rule of thirds placing him in the upper third, and really nice use of the diagonal of the log drawing you into the face. It's also nice how you caught the paw just creeping over the left side. I think that it could do with a bit more room on the right hand side however so you could keep that elbow in the frame, and move the left ear further from the edge. Colour wise there's not much to critique. I love the contrast between the face and background, and the warm colours that give the piece a whole mood if its own. It's nice how he's contrasted against the green of the log (which looks a bit too green, but that may be me... or moss) too.
Other than those few things I think it's a really nice piece, and a great moment you caught. You should be pleased with it
