Haha, of course not!!! I'm just feeding him up to make sure he's fat enough to survive hibernation. When I found him (about a week before my adults hibernated) he was 488g. At that weight he wouldn't have survived.. He's now at 650g, when he gets to 700g I will put him back out to hibernate safely (My male adult weights above 1,300g!)
Zack and Zee are fine, they're both being their lazy selves and sleeping all day and night!
It won't take too long to clear the worms and its great that you will be getting him back Its a wonderful job that you are doing and im really proud of you, its not easy being a foster mum I have look after injured and orphan animal on and off for years and i can be very rewarding but the hours are very long and you need lots of patients
I think they said about 14days for the worms. I'm not sure if I'll be getting him back just yet, or in April. They may stay at the centre to be fattened up, depends on the weather and their weights! Oh yes I know what you mean, it seems to totally take over your life doesn't it? I'm not sure if you've ever looked after hedgehogs before, but they are pooing machines!! Haha, I'm constantly in there cleaning. Hog 5 seems to have a new fascination with biting me too, not in a mean way though, I think its more in a curious way. It is rewarding knowing that I've saved him though
Yes i know what you mean about the pooing, they seem to need cleaning every five minutes or so lol It is very rewarding but it can be quite sad when you have to say goodbye and release them back into the wild
Yes, but I imagine I might still see some of the hedgehogs from time to time as I put food out for them. The hedgehog population seems to be doing good though, I rescued 3 at the start of the year as we have none in the area. We now have 5 babies, brining us up to 8 hedgehogs. Also 4 of the babies are males, so we're thinking of getting a couple more females to help get different blood lines. So it's going very well!
